OXCON -
Parachutist's Oxygen Console
The parachutist's
OXCON (Oxygen Console), which supplements the man-mounted PHAOS, is a
lightweight, portable, multi-station oxygen system designed to contain and
distribute regulated oxygen for pre-breathing on board the transport aircraft
for up to eight persons. It was designed as a self-contained, easy to operate,
and virtually maintenance-free oxygen system.
The OXCON consists of three pressurized cylinders, an on/off
valve, pressure regulator, supply and manifold pressure gauges and multi-station
oxygen distribution manifolds with quick disconnect fittings. These components
are contained within a compact, rugged, and reliable structure.
It can be
easily installed for missions requiring oxygen and can be simply recharged
without disassembly or cleaning. Multiple OXCONs can be interconnected to
increase pre-breathing duration. The basic 8-man OXCON System includes eight
hoses/flow blinker assemblies and an oxygen charging assembly.
The OXCON is a derivative of a console that has been
designed, developed and tested for helicopter use and meets all applicable
specifications. A 2-man OXCON is available for special applications.
The OXCON meets the challenges for high altitude
parachutists: Rugged construction, easily maintained. Lightweight design (100
lbs. filled). Lightweight, high flex hose. In-line flow indicators. Stainless
steel fittings. Eight man capability. Two-hour duration.
OXCON REGULATOR
The OXYCON Pre-breathing assembly incorporates a
proven design regulator developed for use in the commercial life support and
medical oxygen-handling field. The regulator, mounted beneath the console's top
side servicing panel, reduces the internally-mounted supply cylinder pressure to
provide a constant, useable system pressure of 70 PSI. A port on the
high-pressure side of the regulator allows measurement of supply cylinder
pressure via one of the two Mil-Std gauges incorporated in the console system.
MANUAL ON/OFF VALVE
The manual on/off valve is rated to 5000 PSI heavy duty
service. Its rugged construction allows for extended service life in the field.
MANIFOLD
The multi-station manifolds mounted beneath the enclosure
panels provide four quick connects on each side of the OXCON housing. A
low-pressure system-monitoring gauge is provided on the servicing side manifold,
conveniently located near the quick connects. The manifold incorporates high
pressure stainless steel fittings and all internal tubing in the console is
stainless steel for ease of maintenance and safety.
SUPPLY RESERVOIRS
The OXCON system incorporates three lightweight 1000
cu. in. pressure cylinders, filament wound for added safety, meet all
requirements of DOT FRP-1 Standard; Type 3FC Cylinders, modified by
DOT-E-8162-1850 with an approved life of 15 years (3 year inspection/retest).
CHARGING VALVE
The system charging valve is located conveniently
near the on/off valve and high-pressure monitoring gauge. An oxygen charging kit
is provided for safely recharging the OXCON system.
PRESSURE GAUGES
Three pressure gauges are provided with OXCON. A
high-pressure gauge indicates the available supply pressure from the pressure
reservoirs. Two low-pressure gauges (one on each side) allow monitoring of the
regulated outlet pressure at the quick connect manifolds. Both gauges conform to
the military standard specifications.
HANDLING PROTECTION
Protective
guards are provided around controls, gauges and connections to minimize risk of
impact damage during handling.
OXCON OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
The basic 8-man OXCON system includes Seven 120"
hose/flow blinker assemblies, One 216" hose/flow assemblies, One oxygen
charging assembly and One purging valve assembly. In addition the OXCON can
incorporate: Interconnecting hoses to increase duration. Specialty quick
connect/disconnects per customer requirements. Various hose lengths to meet
mission requirements.
All optional equipment is interchangeable with existing
equipment and conforms with relevant military specifications.
